<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve using efficiency of shelves of an automatic warehouse, by classifying and controlling a plurality of shelves in the automatic warehouse for each handling device or each handling device group for handling products in process with a shelf control means based on a plan of the handling device and a handling starting time of the products in process created by a planning means, and by changing setting of the number of shelves with the number-of-shelves setting changing means based on the plan created by the planning means. <P>SOLUTION: The shelf control device of the automatic warehouse controls the warehouse having the plurality of shelves, a conveying device for carrying in or out the products in process that are sequentially handled and commercialized in a manufacturing process, and a plurality of handling devices or handling device groups 12-15 for handling the products in process. The planning means 105 determines handling devices or handling device groups 12-15 for handling the products by a certain time and the handling starting time. The shelf control means 101 classifies the plurality of shelves by the handling devices or handling device groups 12-15 for handling the products based on the determination. The number-of-shelves setting changing means 202 sets the number of shelves classified based on the plan created by the planning means.
