摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which quality of an alignment layer surface in a pixel region and furthermore display quality are kept on a higher level, with respect to alignment treatment of the alignment layer with a rubbing method, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In the vicinity of at least one edge of the alignment layer of the pixel region of at least one out of a TFT substrate or a counter substrate, an alignment layer with a height higher than that of the alignment layer of the pixel region is disposed. Consequently, prior to the alignment treatment of the alignment layer of the pixel region, a rubbing cloth passes over the alignment layer with the height higher than that of the alignment layer of the pixel region. Foreign matters stuck to the rubbing cloth are wiped out and recovered with a difference in level of the high alignment layer.
