PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet separating mechanism with a small number of parts in which the assembling of a separating claw is easy and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The separating claw 50 loaded to be able to rotate around a rotating shaft 51 with a claw part 52 brought into slidable contact with a surface of a fixing roll 21 and a holder 40 rotatably holding the separating claw 50 through the rotating shaft 51 are included. The holder 40 is rotatably attached to a bracket 31 of a frame 13 and a leaf spring 44 elastically holding the holder 40 in a specified position when attached to the bracket 31 is provided on the holder 40.
