The release lock(4.0) and seat occupancy recognition units(4.1-4.5) are monitored by a measuring instrument(5) parallel to the central control unit(1). This actuates an ignition blocking signal(s5) as soon as at least one of these units actuates a release inhibiting signal. The ignition blocking signal acts upon a locking device(6) located between the central control unit and occupant protection device(2) and effects disabling of the release.
