PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing an optical fiber coupler with favorable optical characteristics efficiently. SOLUTION: A pretreatment process is carried out by arranging and holding two optical fibers, from which the clad members are partly removed, almost in parallel and in contact with each other, and making the multiplexed light of the different wavelengths incident on one optical fiber. A preheating process is carried out by heating the optical fibers at a temperature of 1,580 to 1,690°C for 20 to 70 seconds with a ceramic heater. After having drawn them at 0.01 to 0.5μm/sec for 20 to 120 seconds while heating them at a temperature of 1610 to 1710°C higher than the preheating temperature, a drawing process is carried out by drawing them at a speed of 1 to 15μm/sec for 250 to 550 seconds. A fusion part is formed by drawing them at 1 to 15μm/sec while heating them at a temperature of 1,460 to 1,560°C lower than that of the drawing process, to fuse them to have predetermined optical characteristics of almost a round cross section.
