PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester staple fiber which has excellent washing durability, soft feeling, excellent antistatic properties, discoloration prevention properties, excellent hardness, high repulsion against bulkiness and biodegradability. SOLUTION: The biodegradable polyester staple fiber comprises polylactic acid, has a fiber surface coated with a resin coating film of a silicone-based finishing oil having 1.0-2.5% amino content. Preferably the cross section of the fiber is a hollow shape and the percentage of hollowness is≥5% and≤50%.
