An optical data carrier containing a preferably transparent substrate which is, optionally, already covered with one or several reflective layers. A light-inscriptible information layer is disposed on the surface thereof, in addition to optionally one or several reflective layers and optionally a protective layer or another substrate or a covering layer which is inscriptible or readable with blue, red or infrared light, preferably laser light. The information layer contains a light absorbing compound and optionally a binding agent. The invention is characterized in that at least one azo metal dye is used as a light absorbing compound.
