<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain power scalable digital video decoding. <P>SOLUTION: A method is provided for decoding digital video data with a power scalable method. The method is started from monitoring a power level available for a video decoding system. A threshold power level is then identified. When the available power level exceeds the threshold power level, a power consumption level and a video display quality associated with the video decoding system are changed together. A method for judging an optimal pair of power consumption and video quality of the video decoding system is also provided.
