PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drastically improve the detection precision and reliability of a membrane separation apparatus by efficiently detecting whether a membrane module is damaged or not by a simple system in a short time. SOLUTION: This membrane separation apparatus for obtaining a permeated liquid or a concentrated liquid by using the membrane module divided into an original liquid chamber and a permeated liquid chamber by a separation membrane is provided with a means for discharging the liquid in the first chamber being any of the original liquid chamber and the permeated liquid chamber, a means for reducing the pressure of the second chamber being the other of the original liquid chamber and the permeated liquid chamber by suction and a means for measuring the pressure-reduced state of the second chamber.
