PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To electrolytically treat organic compound-containing water efficiently. SOLUTION: Several conductor electrodes 2, 3 and 4a-4b are arranged so as to be spaced apart from each other and the electrodes 2 and 3 at both ends among the conductor electrodes are connected to a power supply 5 while the conductor electrodes 4a-4b between both electrodes are set as bipolar electrodes not connected to the power supply 5. By passing an electric current through both electrodes 2 and 3 from the power supply 5, the electrodes 4a-4b between both electrodes are bipolarized to subject the organic compound-containing water to electrolytic treatment. As the above-mentioned conductive counter electrodes, conductive diamond electrodes are desirable and these diamond electrodes are desirably self-standing type ones. By this treatment method for organic compound-containing water, an effective electrode area becomes large by bipolarizing the electrodes, a treatment efficiency is enhanced, a large amount of wastewater can be treated and a treatment apparatus can be made compact.
