PRODUCTION AND USE OF SALT TOLERANT AND CULTURE DENSITY TOLERANT ORGANISMS

Cells and organisms tolerant to high salt and/or high culture density are described. Such cells have two particular genes inactivated, resulting in the environmental stress tolerance. Also described are methods for creating and using such cells and organisms. The cells and organisms can be used in many different applications where the tolerance of high salt and/or high density is advantageous. Examples include industrial and food product processes involving cell culture, e.g., yeast culture.
