The assembly (16) has a differential housing (20), which encloses side gears (22) spaced at an interval and axially aligned. The side gears are fitted around individual axle half shafts (18) to engage pinion gears (24) supported to a pinion pin (34). The pinion pin extends diametrically across the housing and is coupled to a ring gear set outside of the differential housing. The pinion pin transits torque from the ring gear to the pinion gears.
