CRUSHER AND MEDICAL WASTE DISPOSAL SYSTEM USING THE SAME

A medical waste disposal system provided with a sterilizer for infectious medical waste discharged from medical facilities, and a crusher for sterilized waste. The sterilizer has a package opening mechanism; thus, even if a packaged waste is dumped into a sterilizing tank, the waste is released from the package by the package opening mechanism, so that the waste is thoroughly subjected to the sterilizing atmosphere. And the crusher is provided with a pressing mechanism having an arcuate guide member cooperating with a rotary cutter to define a wedge-like waste receiving space therebetween. This arcuate guide member is driven by a driving mechanism to heavily press the waste against the rotary cutter as the rotary cutter is rotated. The provision of this pressing mechanism ensures that the waste is finely crushed both by compression cutting and by shear crushing.
