PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save an electric power consumption, and to prolong the service life of a battery, in a position monitoring system including a GPS receiver mounted on a moving object such as a migrant bird for a long period and operated intermittently in order to monitor the behavior of a wild animal such as the migrant bird. SOLUTION: This position monitoring system for the moving object related to the present invention is provided with an own position detecting means for receiving GPS signals intermittently to detect its own position, a storage means for storing the detected own position together with the time in the detection, and a power supply means for supplying electric power for the operation to each of the means, and the system is attached to the moving object of a position monitoring object. The own position detecting means stores almanac information preliminarily out of the GPS signals, and receives and processes ephemeris information to calculate the present position.
