[Class 12 (i)] A ball or roller bearing has the bearing surfaces of the balls or rollers or of at least one of the races formed of soft rubber or like resilient material of Shore hardness less than 80 preferably between 60 and 75. Thus the balls, or the rollers of any required form, cylindrical, end-flanged, conical, barrel-shaped, or waisted, may be formed of the soft rubber or may be solid-cored with a coating of soft rubber. The core may be of hard rubber, or the races may be coated with soft rubber on their bearing surfaces. The races may have a side opening for insertion of the balls Fig. 1 (not shown) or the races may be formed by two half-sections meeting in the plane transverse to the bearing axis and riveted together after the balls or rollers have been inserted Figs. 3 and 7 (not shown) the races may be formed by spinning or by folding over sheet metal Figs. 4, 5, 11, 12 (not shown). Figs. 15 and 16 show rollers with solid cores S coated with soft rubber S' and spaced by a flexible cage formed by links T' freely connecting pins T extending through the cores, the links being provided alternately on the opposite sides of the bearing. The bearings are lubricated by colloidal carbon or graphite. The races may be of metal or plastics. The balls or rollers may be pre-loaded. According to the Provisional Specification cup and cone ball bearings may be provided with the soft rubber coating. |
