The reporting device has sensors (3, 3') held by a measuring axle (6) in a gage width position (1', 1) permitting relative movement (7). An alteration of the gage width position is detected as a gage width deviation. The measuring axle includes elements (6', 6) with different coefficients of thermal expansion, which with the sensor carriers (8, 8') form a geometric configuration in which the thermal expansion and contraction of the elements compensate each other.
