The adapter (2) has a cylindrical clamping range (6) for clamping into a chuck (4) of a machine tool. A range unit (10) has a drill (12) for admitting the shank of a tool (14), and a positioning portion (24) for positioning onto an intended place in the chuck. The drill has an edge (16) for stopping the tool shank. An independent claim is also included for a working procedure.
