PURPOSE: A multi-air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to prevent damage, to protect environment, and to improve the reliability by restricting leakage of refrigerant and recovering refrigerant leaking from the indoor unit. CONSTITUTION: The pressure of refrigerant passing through a passage is decreased in leaking refrigerant from an indoor unit while driving a multi-air conditioner(600,603,606). A pressure sensor installed in the outlet pipe of the indoor unit detects pressure at the outlet of the indoor unit, and outputs the signal to a control unit automatically in lowering pressure below the predetermined pressure(609). The control unit regulates the opening degree of an electronic expansion valve to zero(612). A control unit of an outdoor unit operates a compressor for 2 to 3 minutes with a compressor driving unit(615). Refrigerant leaking from the indoor unit is recovered by the outdoor unit, and the error code is displayed(618).
