In a papermaking process a wet fibre layer on a moving dewatering belt (1) and felt belt (2), the belt lower face is subjected to a partial vacuum. The belt (1, 2) is supported by a structure (4, 5) with a series of separate supporting components located at intervals. The supporting components are separated from the moving sieve belt (1) and felt (2) by low-wear pads. The supporting components are position-adjustable transverse beams forming corrugated outer margins. The supporting structures also move and generate an oscillating action in the moving wet fibre suspension.
