1,110,878. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 29 April, 1966 [30 April, 1965], No. 18326/65. Heading H1A. [Also in Division H2] In a high voltage cable, a solid plastics (polyethylene) dielectric which in operation of the cable is subjected to the pressure of a cable gas, is pre-impregnated with the gas. Impregnation may take place before or after sheathing and may be partly or wholly effected after installation of the cable. Impregnation is accelerated by impregnating at a temperature near the maximum working temperature of the dielectric, and at a pressure of one and a half times the working pressure. If the cable has been previously sheathed an equal pressure is applied to the outside of the sheath during impregnation by the use of the gas or another fluid. The impregnation may be effected in a pipe in which the cable is to be installed. Preformed plastics parts for use as dielectric in joints or terminations may also be preimpregnated. |
