1,135,214. Desulphurizing ferrous material; annealing silicon-iron. ARMCO STEEL CORP. Dec.10, 1965 [Dec.21, 1964], No.52519/65. Headings C7A and C7D. [Also in Division B2] Ferrous stock, particularly Si-Fe containing 2À5 to 4% Si, maximum 0À04% C, maximum 0À03% S, 0À02 to 0À1% Mn, maximum 0À0035% oxide inclusions and balance Fe, is desulphurized, e.g. after hot and cold rolling to intermediate gauge and decarburizing in wet H 2 to reduce the C content to maximum 0À006%, by annealing the coiled stock at 2000-2300‹ F. in dry H 2 while the surfaces are covered with a coating containing 2 to 10% CaO and balance MgO until the S content is reduced to at most 6 ppm. The stock is preferably coated by means of rubber rolls using a slurry of the CaO-MgO mixture with water. After removing the coating the stock may be cold rolled to final gauge, coated with an alumina annealing separator, recoiled and subjected to a final box anneal at 1900-2300‹ F. for secondary recrystallization to form cube-on-face or (100) [001] texture. |
