PURPOSE: A method for processing data in an ROM drive is provided to prevent an error caused when data cannot be read owing to speed deterioration of an ROM drive caused by a defect of an optical recording medium, thereby improving quality of the ROM drive. CONSTITUTION: A system decides whether corresponding data exists in a buffer(300). If not, the system sets an empty state of the buffer and sets a target position to be sought(301). The system decides whether target position seek, buffering, and decoding processes fail(302). If not, the system buffers and decodes the corresponding data in the target position(303). The system transmits the decoded data to a host(304). If the processes fail, the system decides whether an ROM drive runs at the lowest speed(305). If not, the system reduces a retry counter by speed(307), and downs the speed(308). The system decides whether the ROM drive runs at the lowest speed(309). If so, the system generates an error(310).
