PURPOSE: A plane light emitting device, a method for manufacturing the same, and a liquid crystal display device are provided to achieve improved efficiency of exit of light by permitting light to exit from a substrate through a light exit surface even when an exit angle is larger than a threshold angle of interface between the substrate and air. CONSTITUTION: A plane light emitting device comprises a transparent substrate(5) having a predetermined thickness; and a plane light emitting element arranged on the transparent substrate. The transparent substrate includes a light exit surface(7). Light emitted from the plane light emitting element passes through the transparent substrate, and exits from the plane light emitting device through the light exit surface. The light exit surface has a plurality of recessed portions(8). The light exit surface has a certain part between two adjacent recessed portions, wherein the part includes a plane vertical to the thickness direction of the transparent substrate.
