PURPOSE: A polyester film for forming an artificial marble and preparation method thereof are provided to improve wet tension, blocking properties and adhesion with a PVA(polyvinyl alcohol) coating film and aqueous ink, thereby being suitably used as a base film for a PVA coating film. CONSTITUTION: The polyester film for forming an artificial marble comprises a coating layer comprising a water-dispersed polyurethane resin having 6-15% of a solid content, on at least one side of the film. The preparation method of the polyester film for forming an artificial marble comprises a step of preparing a uniaxially-oriented polyethyleneterephthalate film by carrying out melt extrusion of a polyester resin having ethylene terephthalate as its main repeated unit in the molecule, and a step of biaxially-orienting the polyethyleneterephthalate film by coating a water-dispersed polyurethane resin having 6-15% of a solid content to at least one side of the film.
