METHOD AND DEVICE FOR STORING/PROTECTING CORE COMPONENT DATA ON FRU OF COMPUTER SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method and a device for storing/protecting core component data on an FRU(Field Replaceable Unit) of a computer system is provided to easily change a record size and add a new record to support a basic FRU of an improved version by making a data recording format accept data records of different lengths in an efficient and flexible way. CONSTITUTION: The format comprises a header(301), a content table(302), more than one data record(303), a content table ECC(Error Correction Code)(304), and more than one data record ECC(305). A content table descriptor(307) in the header discriminates a location of the content table. A content table ECC descriptor(308) discriminates existence of the contents table ECC. The content table includes multiple recode index entries(309) including a record descriptor(310) discriminating the location of the data record for the content table ECC descriptor and a matched record ECC descriptor(311) discriminating the location of the data record ECC.
