PURPOSE: An ATM-based LSR(Label Switching Router) having an inner channel sharing function and an inner channel sharing method using the label switching router are provided to preset an inner channel in an ATM-based MPLS(Multi Protocol Label Switching) network, and to share the inner channel when setting an outer channel, thereby using resources of the MPLS network to the maximum. CONSTITUTION: An FE(Forwarding Engine)(306) sets an LSP by using a signaling protocol, extracts an egress FE number and a channel ID to assign an expanded tag, and configures a forwarding table including a preset inner channel ID and the expanded tag by retrieving a preset inner channel. The FE(306) attaches a header including the inner channel ID and the expanded tag to an IP packet if the IP packet is received, and forwards the IP packet. A VM(VC merging) portion(300) receives LSP setup information to configure an expanded table where the inner channel ID is mapped with the expanded tag, performs a merging process if the IP packet is received, maps with the inner channel ID by extracting the expanded tag, and forwards to an inner channel having the mapped inner channel ID.
