PURPOSE: A display system and a method for expanding the bit-depth of the display system are provided to expand the bit depth of display devices using the static noise of the display device. CONSTITUTION: A static display noise of a display device(14) is measured. A display noise is used to generate a pseudo-random noise(12). The pseudo-random noise is subtracted from a contone image(10). After noise-compensated image data are quantized and displayed, the noise-compensate image data are changed to contone image data in which a similar contour does not exist by the noise in the display device.
