PURPOSE: Provided are self-purification method and apparatus being capable of treating sewage and wastewater by growing soil microorganism. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of continuously adding metabolite of phenol-based metabolism to wastewater including organic material to make the organic material to high-polymers (chelate compound) by flocculation, polymerization, condensation reactions, and settling the high-polymers. The apparatus comprises an equalization basin, a first aeration tank, a second aeration tank, a sedimentation tank, and a mineral treatment tank connected to the sedimentation tank and equipped with a cultivator(10) therein, the cultivator(10) being comprised of a porous plate(11) having pellets(13) with microorganisms and their metabolites, and vermiculate(12).
