PURPOSE: A device for measuring an automatic zoom magnification is provided to obtain a rate between a distance up to an upper end edge of a measured image and a distance up to an upper end of a photographing area, and to determine the rate as a zoom magnification, then to photograph the image at the determined zoom magnification, thereby quickly searching an optimum zoom magnification. CONSTITUTION: A zoom mode sensor(100) senses mode key selection information selected by a user. When the automatic zoom mode key selection information is received, an edge detector(110) detects an upper end edge of an image based on a center of the photographed image. A distance measurer(120) measures a distance up to the detected upper end edge from the center of the corresponding image and a distance up to an upper end of a photographing area from the center of the image. A zoom magnification determiner(130) obtains a rate between the distances, and determines the rate as a zoom magnification.
