PURPOSE: A compressor is provided to reduce the manufacturing cost by varying the capacity of a muffler, and obtain the maximum effect of the muffler by reducing a noise. CONSTITUTION: A muffler(60) is installed on an outer peripheral surface of a rear housing, and has a suction chamber(64) and a discharge chamber(66) communicated with the inside of the rear housing and formed by a defining wall(62) defining the inside. A manifold(70) seals the muffler, and has a suction port(72) and a discharge port(74) communicated with the suction chamber and the discharge chamber. A capacity varying element(100) is installed between the muffler and the manifold in a certain height to vary the capacity of the suction chamber and the discharge chamber of the muffler.
