The piston (10), especially for an axial piston compressor for a motor vehicle's air conditioning unit, consists of at least two parts which are interconnected by magnetic pulse welding. The aforesaid parts are a hollow cylindrical skirt (11) and a support for a piston rod or a shoe (12) for engagement of a swashplate, whereby the skirt and support or shoe are interconnected by the magnetic pulse welding. The piston may be constructed in three parts which in addition to the hollow cylindrical skirt and shoe include an end cap, with all three parts interconnected by magnetic pulse welding. An independent claim is included for a procedure for the manufacture of a multi-section piston.
