PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device the non-display area of which is effectively utilized, the non-display area being caused when an inversely corrected image is displayed. SOLUTION: An image display device (10) is provided with a display section (11) comprising a two-dimensional display element (11a) and an eyepiece optical system (11b) for forming the virtual image of a display screen (E) of a two-dimensional display element (11a); a circuit section (13) for applying inverse correction to an image (I) in accordance with distortion aberration of the eyepiece optical system (11b) and thereafter displaying the image (I) on the display screen (E) of the two-dimensional display element (11a); and a mount means capable of mounting the display section (11) to the head of a viewer so that the forming position of the virtual image comes nearly in front of the eyes (2) of the viewer.
