The control unit and especially hydraulic control for a transmission, has a directional valve unit which has only a single valve by which both the cooling of the clutch as well as the minimum pressure and suction function of a pump are guaranteed. The valve has a first (11) and a second (12) control spool movable in a valve housing (1), and at least seven ports (31-34, 42,46,49,50) of which at least one is in communication with the clutch cooling, return from the clutch cooling, the pump or a pilot control pressure source. An independent claim is included for a transmission with the proposed control unit.
