<p>There is disclosed a socket (1) for use on fasteners (6) such as a locking nut inaccessible to closed sockets or ring wrenches. Such a locking nut might be found on a tie rod (track rod) or tie rod end (7b) within a vehicle steering rack (7), for example. The socket (1) has a minimum of two swivel jaws (2a, 2b) pivotally mounted in the same plane and fixed and secured together at a swivel end (2g) by an axis pin (3). The swivel jaws (2a, 2b) advantageously open and close as required around a fastener as mentioned above to be operated, when the swivel jaws (2a, 2b) are fully closed. Lock/drive portions (4), preferably in the form of apertures align with each other and an appropriately drive spigot means (5) is engaged into the lock/drive apertures (4) to not only lock the swivel jaws (2a, 2b) closed around a polygonal drive surface of a fastener (6) but to provide a drive torque via torque drive bar (5a) for operating socket.</p> |
