<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact floodlight device which makes visual field good when it is cut off by rain or fog. <P>SOLUTION: A first and a second polarizing beam splitters 13 and 14, respectively, divide unpolarized light L into p-polarized light P and s-polarized light S1, transmit the p-polarized light P and the unpolarized light L in the same direction, and reflect the s-polarized light S1. A first and a second reflecting mirrors 7 and 8 reflect the s-polarized light in the same direction as the p-polarized light. The floodlight device 1 irradiates either one of the s-polarized or the p-polarized light divided by the first and the second polarizing beam splitter 13 and 14 as a first vertically polarized light having a plane of vibration of electric field approximately vertical to the ground, while also irradiating the other one of the p-polarized or the s-polarized light as a second vertically polarized light converted with a first and a second half-wave plates 5 and 6 into light having a plane of vibration of electric field approximately vertical to the ground. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
