PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of a reference head for writing reference signals in a disk device. SOLUTION: This device is a disk device to read and to write information on a recording disk rotated by a spindle motor using a head mounted on a carriage driven by an actuator in a space sealed by a cover and a base. With respect to the disk device in which a reference head insertion hole for inserting the reference head for writing the reference signals on a disk is provided in the base when the disk device is manufactured, the reference head 35 on the device which writes the reference signals, a head slider 35S provided with the write head, and an arm 35A holding the head slider 35S are constituted as an in-line type head located generally on an straight line.
