PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and lightweight neutron detector capable of measuring the dose and the dose rate of neutrons, and estimating the energy thereof. SOLUTION: The neutron detector comprises a medium to fast neutron detection unit 4 to detect neutrons by a silicon detection element 42 with a polyethylene radiator 41 disposed above a sensing unit, a thermal neutron detection unit 5 to detect neutrons by a silicon detection element 42 with a boron film 51 deposited on the sensing unit, a fast neutron detection unit 6 to detect neutrons by the silicon detection element 42 itself, a signal processing circuit to output the dose value and the energy value, and an accessory circuit 3a or the like. By providing the fast-neutron detection unit 6, the neutron energy can be estimated from the ratio of the counted values of the former two units. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
