PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized opening and closing device for a drainage valve and a washing machine which are excellent in reliability and productivity. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a small motor 3, a normal and reverse rotation means 59 normally and reversibly rotating the small motor 3, an output shaft 5 which is connected to a rotary shaft of the small motor 3 via a gear group 4. The device is also provided with a motor type drive device 1 which is configured to contain a driving body 6 for converting normal and reverse motions of the output shaft 5 into reciprocating motion by being fixed to the output shaft 5 and a connecting member 18 of which one end side is connected to the drive body 6 and other end side is connected to an opening and closing valve element of the drainage valve. The device normally and reversibly rotates the small motor 3 and the driving body 6 by the normal and reverse rotation means 59 and then moves the opening and closing valve element of the drainage valve by reciprocating the connecting member 18.
