VEHICLE TRAVEL CONTROLLER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the danger of entering an intersection at a yellow light when the state of a signal when a preceding vehicle enters the intersection is not recognized in the case of following the preceding vehicle, to control a present vehicle speed by predicting the state of the signal when the preceding vehicle and a present vehicle pass through the intersection and to fix inter-vehicle distance when the vehicles are traveling on a general road.

SOLUTION: A vehicle travel controller is provided with: a signal characteristic acquiring means for acquiring the characteristics Cs of the signal at the intersection; a road information acquiring means for acquiring intersection information including the distance to the intersection; an intersection arrival time calculating means for calculating the time for the present vehicle and the preceding vehicle to arrive at the intersection on the basis of the distance to the intersection, the present vehicle speed and the traveling state of the preceding vehicle; a signal state predicting means for predicting the state of the signal on the basis of the signal characteristics and the intersection arrival time; and a control content changing means for changing the traveling control contents of the present vehicle by the predicted state of the signal.
