PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for carbonizing treatment avoiding applying large torque load on a means for agitating to-be-treated matter. SOLUTION: The apparatus for carbonizing treatment comprises a treatment vessel 6 specifying a chamber 4 for the carbonizing treatment of the to-be-treated matter, a heating vessel 8 specifying a heating chamber 8 covering the chamber 4, a combustion burner means 68 for feeding the heating vessel 8 with heating combustion gas, a means 38 for agitating the to-be-treated matter, and a driving means 54 for rotatingly driving the means 38. In this apparatus, the treatment vessel 6 comprises a cylindrical housing body 12 and a pair of end walls 16 and 18 provided on both ends of the housing body 12, and the respective inner surfaces of the end walls 16 and 18 are provided with blade members 82 and 84 for cutting to-be-treated matter entangled on the agitating means 38.
