PURPOSE: A method for displaying residual time of a battery in a portable electronic equipment is provided to detect and display more accurate residual time of a battery. CONSTITUTION: An optical disk is inserted into a portable optical disk unit(S10). A microcomputer discriminates a type of the optical disk(S11). If the optical disk is a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk), a current operating mode is set up as a high current mode and a look-up table corresponding to the high current mode is selected(S12,S13,S14). If the optical disk is a CD(Compact Disk), a current operating mode is set up as a low current mode and a look-up table corresponding to the low current mode is selected(S15,S16). It is judged whether a user requests to display residual time of a battery(S17). The microcomputer confirms battery voltage and current values for operating the measured voltage and current values(S18). The microcomputer controls an OSD(On Screen Display) generator for displaying the residual time of the battery corresponding to the operated voltage value(S19). The microcomputer discriminates a battery valid use time ending point for calculating a mean value of battery use time and the battery residual time(S20). The microcomputer updates the battery residual time set in the corresponding look-up table with the calculated mean value(S21).
