PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phthalic acid derivative bearing iodoaryl group that is suitable for a liposome-containing iodine contrast medium for selectively giving a contrast image of the lesion. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by general formula (I) (wherein V<SP>1</SP>, V<SP>2</SP>, V<SP>3</SP>and V<SP>4</SP>are each independently H, or a univalent substituent where V<SP>1</SP>, V<SP>2</SP>, V<SP>3</SP>and V<SP>4</SP>are not H simultaneously; Ar<SP>1</SP>and Ar<SP>2</SP>are each independently H, an alkyl or an aryl; L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>are each independently a divalent linking group; when both of Ar<SP>1</SP>and Ar<SP>2</SP>are H, at least one of V<SP>1</SP>, V<SP>2</SP>, V<SP>3</SP>and V<SP>4</SP>is I; when any of V<SP>1</SP>, V<SP>2</SP>, V<SP>3</SP>and V<SP>4</SP>are not I, Ar<SP>1</SP>and/or Ar<SP>2</SP>are an aryl group bearing at least one of iodine atom as a substituent).
