PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest mounting mechanism for furniture for sitting, and the furniture for sitting equipped with the backrest mounting mechanism applicable as a common component to the furniture for sitting of various design and sizes while increasing backrest mounting strength. SOLUTION: This backrest mounting mechanism 3 for the furniture for sitting is provided with connecting rod members 31 hanging from the lower part of a backrest 2 of the furniture for sitting such as a sofa to support the backrest, and pipe-like receiving members 34 with the lower parts fixed to a lower frame 14b of a sitting furniture body 1 and with the upper parts fixed to an upper frame of the sitting furniture body 1 to receive and support connecting rods 32 of the connecting rod members 31 to thereby fix the backrest into a prescribed position of the sitting furniture body 1. The pipe-like receiving member 34 can be used as the common component to a greater variety of furniture for sitting by mounting the upper part by a first fixing means 6 and the lower part by a second fixing means 37 at variable mounting angles, and making the length adjustable by a length adjusting means.
