So configured, the wireless gateway can serve to facilitate, for a mobile node (63) user of the first wireless communication system, both wireless communications via the first wireless communication system and wireless communications via a second, different wireless communication system (62). In one embodiment, the first wireless communication system comprises a CDMA2000-compatible system and the second wireless communication system comprises an 802.11-compatible system.
