A powder of porous spheroidal silica having a mean particle diameter (volume basis) of 3.0 to 20 mum, a maximum particle diameter of 50 mum or less, and a pore volume of 1.5 to 3.0 cm<3>/g. A paste is prepared by adding 40 g of squelene to 15 cm<3> (apparent volume) of the porous spheroidal silica powder and placed to a thickness of 2 mm into the space between parallel plates having a diameter of 2.5 cm. While one of the plates is angularly vibrated at 2 Hz and while the average sheering stress between the plates is increased from 10 Pa to 10 kPa, the dynamic visco-elasticity is measured. When the correlation between the log(sheering stress) and log(storage modulus), the minimum value of the dlog(storage modulus)/dlog(sheering stress) is -10 or more. If such a porous spheroidal silica powder is used as a lotion powder, an excellent lotion, especially a skin that imparts a sense of transparency to the skin, conditions the skin texture, and makes wrinkles and skin pores imperceptible can be provided.
