DISPLAY UNIT AND DISPLAY METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display unit and a display method that enable false contour noise to be reduced without causing a deterioration in picture quality.

SOLUTION: Luminous and non-luminous combination pattern in the n-th to m-th subfields (m and n are positive integers smaller than the number of all subfields, and m>n) in 1st to 4th pixels P1 to P4 vertically and laterally adjacent to respective areas on a PDP are different from one another. The gradation values displayed respectively by the 1st pixel P1 and 2nd pixel P2 located in one diagonal position out of the 1st to 4th pixels P1 to P4 vertically and laterally adjacent to respective areas on the PDP are lower than an average of gradation values displayed by the 1st to 4th pixels P1 to P4 and the gradation values respectively displayed by the 3rd pixel P3 and 4th pixel P4 located in the other diagonal position are higher than an average of gradation values displayed by the 1st to 4th pixels P1 to P4.
