摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing a quartz optical fiber substitutable for an Al coated quartz optical fiber in a high yield. SOLUTION: The periphery of a naked quartz optical fiber is coated with a melt of an Al eutectic alloy whose liquidus line temperature is lower than 660°C and the melt is solidified to manufacture the objective Al alloy coated quartz optical fiber. In this invention, since the Al eutectic alloy whose liquidus line temperature (melting point) is lower than 660°C is used, a holding temperature of the melt can be set at a temperature lower than a holding temperature (670-800°C) of conventional molten Al. Accordingly, even if the temperature of the melt becomes higher than the set temperature by an unexpected temperature change of the melt due to a variation of volume of the melt in dies, rise to such a high temperature as to form a reaction phase of aluminum oxide is prevented.
