PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable direction trigger probe that can be directed to a plurality of indexed directions and is operated easily. SOLUTION: The variable direction trigger probe (20) orients a measurement pin (30) to a measuring apparatus. The variable direction trigger probe includes a movable portion (210) capable of rotating around a shaft (211); an elastic means (215) for prohibiting the movement of the movable part and for maintaining the movable portion in a fixed position; index elements (256, 217) for prescribing a number of angle positions that are specified for the movable portion and can be reproduced; and an actuator, where the index elements allow the movable portion to rotate on the shaft without coming into contact each other or coming into contact with other portions of the trigger probe, cancels the movable portion by displacement in the direction of the shaft, and opposes the elastic means for maintaining a separation of the index elements when the movable portion is rotated.
