Measurement method for determining the moisture content of a material web (1), especially a paper web, using an infrared moisture sensor (10). The sensor is mounted on a measurement beam (14) and moved perpendicularly over the whole width of the paper web in order to measure moisture content. Signals from the moisture sensor corresponding to a moisture value are calibrated using calibration software in a calibration unit. The beam is positioned at a point such that the dryness of the material web is preferably greater than or equal to 10 percent. An independent claim is made for a measurement arrangement for measuring the moisture content of a material web.
