<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the tracking of a target, even if the edges of its ends are no more seen, as the target approaches to go out of its picture. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle finder 4 for detecting a vehicle from a picture inputted from a camera 2, a measuring unit 7 for measuring the distance or the change of the distance from the vehicle, a net type template former 5 for forming a virtual net on the picture to define information on the lattice points of the net as a net type reference template for tracking the vehicle where the lattice point spacing is a length on the picture corresponding to a specified length on the vehicle, a new input picture net definer 8 for adjusting the lattice point spacing for an actual specified length on the vehicle according to a newly obtained distance or the distance change relative to the net type reference template and for acquiring new information on the net lattice points, and a vehicle tracking processor 9 for calculating the correlation of information on the lattice points obtained by shifting the position of the net with the net type reference template to calculate the position of the vehicle at which the correlation is the highest. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
